Paying for your treatment / How much does it cost?

Orthodontic treatment delivers a lifetime value to patients. We understand that you will have specific questions in relation to fees, so please don't be afraid to ask.

You may find that the cost is considerably lower than you first thought. Many orthodontic problems require only limited treatment. The cost will, of course, vary depending upon the severity and complexity of the case in question. We will always let you know what fees are involved before any treatment is undertaken.

Payment of fees are normally spread out in instalments over the period of active treatment. We can also offer payment plans to meet individual financial needs. As most active treatments take between eighteen to twenty four months, the financial outlay can be well spread.

What will happen on my visit?

1. Initial visit and examination
Your first visit will give you the opportunity to discuss your concerns and problems with the Orthodontist. It will consist of a preliminary evaluation and a discussion regarding treatment, if it is necessary. Diagnostic records (x-rays, photos, impressions etc) may also be taken to determine the complexity of the problem. These also help the orthodontist to draw up a treatment plan for you.

2. The second visit
Sometimes a second visit may be necessary to fully evaluate your treatment plan, which will be discussed in detail, what is involved in treatment, what results you can expect, how long treatment will take, and of course, how much will it cost.

3. Periodic Visits
Regular visits to your orthodontist are a very necessary part of successful treatment. Normally you will need to visit the practice every four to eight weeks to monitor your progress and adjust your braces.

4. Follow Up

Retention - the term given to the final phase of your treatment. The braces are gone…..I'm finished! Well not quite. Your retainers are designed to hold your teeth in their new positions until your bone, gums and muscles adapt to the new teeth positions. The retention period is an important part of your overall treatment and should not be neglected!

5. How long will it take?
It all depends. No two patients are the same, and, likewise, no two orthodontic treatments are the same. Braces may be on for between 6 months and 24 months, or longer depending on the severity of the problem, co-operation of the patient, the age of the patient, and the degree of movement that can be achieved. Beautiful smiles take time so you must expect to be patient during treatment.
